operate more than 100 yds from the
drill, which can be more than 30 yds
below them – as long as they maintain
line-of-site radio communications
with the rig. The increased distance
from highwalls and machines on
steep or rough terrain enhances
worksite safety.
“The main advantage of
BenchREMOTE is enhanced safety,”
explained Maurice Hunter, Business
Line Manager of Atlas Copco Surface
and Exploration Drilling Equipment.
“It means operators no longer have to
work near highwalls. But being able to
handle up to three SmartROC D65 rigs
in parallel also helps increase
productivity and operator efficiency.”
The BenchREMOTE operator station
can be installed in a vehicle, trailer or
container. Its controls and displays are
exactly those of the working rig, giving
the operator the same capabilities as
working from the rig itself. A closed
Wi-Fi network communicates operator
inputs and machine feedback
independently of the local network
infra-structure. Should the network be
lost for any reason, the rig
automatically shuts down as an
additional safety precaution.
All SmartROC D65 drill rigs that
have been equipped with the Atlas
Copco Hole Navigation System (HNS)
can be upgraded to BenchREMOTE
operation.
Safe conveyor maintenance
ASGCO has released its Retractable
Razor-Back ™ systemwith Split Block
Spring-Shoc™, which allows for safe
access and service from outside the
chute. The patent‑pending design
prevents the dangers of working inside
the conveyor or breaking the plane of
the conveyor – keeping workers out of
harm’s way. This reduces downtime and
eliminates the need for confined space
permits. Key features include:
n
n
Resilient blade support to absorb the
shock in the most severe material
handling applications.
n
n
Blades move independently to
maintain constant contact with the
belt.
n
n
Durable, 3 ½ in. thick square tubing
for extreme environments.
n
n
Universal mounting for easy
installation.
n
n
Retractable design allows for ease of
blade change out and maintenance,
from one side of the conveyor.
n
n
Heavy-duty tungsten carbide or
AR400 blades available.
n
n
Compact design requires less than
9 in. of clearance to be installed and
maintained.
n
n
Safe for mechanical splices and belts
speeds up to 1000 ft/min. (5 m/sec.).
The system is suitable for
applications, such as coal-fired power
plants, hard-rock mining, steel mills,
iron ore, aggregate and mineral
(phosphate, potash, salt) mining. It is
covered by ASGCO’s total satisfaction
guarantee (TSG) on the system.
Making an impact
Flexco has added Modular Impact Beds
to its line of load zone solutions.
Engineered with maximum capacity in
mind, while ensuring full containment,
the modular beds are designed with
universal components that offer effective
and affordable load zone protection.
The newModular Impact Beds
feature a 2 ft (600 mm) sectional design,
which allows the user to choose the
layout of their load zone, depending on
application-specific performance
requirements. “Users can choose to use
an all-bar section for high-impact areas,
or a slider impact section, where lower
