T
he world’s largest trade
show will once again
descend on Munich in April:
yes, it’s time for bauma
2016. And this year, mining will once
again play a key part with three
exhibit halls – B2, C2 and C3 – focused
on mining and 700 exhibitors bringing
mining-related equipment to the
show. Mining will also be represented
in the bauma Forum series of technical
presentations, while SNL Metals &
Mining will host a Mining Insight
seminar series.
Indeed, the German Engineering
Federation (VDMA) is pinning its
hopes on bauma to kickstart an
upturn in demand for mining
equipment after three consecutive
years of falling sales from German
mining equipment suppliers.
“Experience shows that many
customers delay purchasing decisions
until bauma, where they can first get
an overview of the world market
offering,” the show’s organisers,
Messe München, said in a recent press
release. That seems to be born out by
exhibitor registrations from the
mining sector, which are holding up
despite downturn.
“The current difficult situation in
the sector is not being reflected in the
registration figures for exhibitors at
bauma,” noted Mareile Kästner,
bauma’s Exhibition Director. “The
interest from mining companies and
manufacturers of mining production
in exhibiting is still very high.”
With this in mind, here’s
World Coal
's preview of some of the
coal-related companies and equipment
that will attend this year’s show.
Caterpillar’s new
mining shovel
Caterpillar and its German dealer,
Zeppelin Baumaschinen GmbH, will
exhibit a suite of technologies, services
and equipment in display space of
more than 8200 m
2
. This will include
the company’s new 6015B hydraulic
mining shovel, which has been “built
with class-leading speed and power
and optimised to load the Cat 773, 775
and 777 trucks in four, five and seven
passes, respectively,” according to the
company.
In total, Caterpillar will showcase
more than 60 products in Munich, as
well as a large selection of work tools
and dealer-delivered support services,
in an exhibit designed under the
theme ‘Built for It’.
IBS presents the
iRoadheader and RS2.0
Industriemaschinen-Bergbau-Service
GmbH (IBS), together with the newly
founded joint venture company,
INMINE GmbH, will present and
demonstrate iRoadheader, a
teleremote operator assistance and
profile control system that enables the
machine to be operated safely from
200 m away or more. When equipped
with this system there is no longer any
need for personnel to be present in the
danger zone at the face, reducing the
safety risk. The system can be fitted to
any suitable roadheader or similar
development machine and/or
retrofitted to existing equipment.
The second highlight on the IBS
stand is the smart switchgear cabinet
Roadheader Starter RS2.0. A 15 in.
full-colour interactive display panel
enables the user to access vital status
information via menu navigation with
the aid of 3D graphics. The system
also enables self-explanatory
troubleshooting and comes with
onboard condition monitoring as
standard. An early warning system
has been included to prevent
avoidable failures and consequential
damage to other components. As a
result, the life-expectancy of key
components such as electric motors is
increased considerably.
With the aid of an optional client
server, it is also possible to integrate
the RS2.0 into a network and provide
permanent remote access, real-time
data transmission, monitoring and
diagnostics, etc. All relevant
information can be made available on
PC’s or smartphones anywhere on or
connected to the network. A remote
maintenance module provides quick
and accurate diagnostics as if the
service technician was at the machine.
As standard, RS2.0 can be connected
using standard intrinsically safe DSL
(phone cable) technology.
Alternatively, intrinsically safe fibre
optic technology is available.
Joy Global
Nearly one year after acquiring
Montabert from Doosan Holding
France, Joy Global will highlight the
brand’s products, alongside its
crushing and conveying line at bauma.
Through the June 2015 acquisition,
Joy Global now offers Montabert rock
drills and breakers for hard rock
mining applications. “Montabert’s
