talian utility, Enel Produzione S.p.a., operates the 2640 MW
South Brindisi power plant in Italy, one of the country’s
largest coal plants. Following considerations to reduce the
plant’s environmental impact, Enel decide to replace the
power plant's current outdoor longitudinal coal storage with
two new domes that have wooden covering structures.
Bedeschi was selected to supply the two domes and has
recently reported it has completed the installation. The company
began construction phase one of the first dome in December
2013, while the second started inApril. At the end of 2015, both
installations have been positively tested and accepted by Enel.
Shipunloading at a Japanese power plant
The Haranchi coal-fired power plant, located in Minamisoma,
Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, has recently received a 1200 t,
45 m high continuous shipunloader (CSU). The CSU was
supplied by IHI Transport Machinery and transported from its
construction site in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to Haranchi by BigLift
Shipping on the ship Happy Buccaneer.
The CSU was loaded and unloaded by Happy Buccaneer’s
two 700 t heavy-lift mast cranes, using two 24 m BigLift lifting
beams. Large forces were expected on the supports of the
bucket wheel boom and the ballast arm because of the
construction of the CSU. Adetailed load spreading plan was
made to direct thes forces into Happy Buccaneer’s
high-strength upper deck. During the voyage, the acceleration
forces on the CSU were constantly monitored, using the
OCTOPUS onboard system, a state-of-the-art system that
delivers real-time vessel monitoring and supports the vessel’s
route planning, speed optimisation, heading and fuel
consumption. Once the vessel berthed at Haramachi, the CSU
was successfully installed in two days.
Successful testing of clean coal
technologies
Clean Coal Technologies Inc.’s (CCTI) latest tests of the Pristine
M Technology analysed by the independent standard
laboratory have been successful. The tests reduced the moisture
